Obituary from July 4, 1931 Ste. Genevieve Herald: F.A. LaGrave Died Suddenly, Monday Entered into rest suddenly at nine o'clock. Monday morning, June 29th 1931, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Douglas in Ste. Genevieve. Francis A. LaGrave, at the age of ninety-one years, five months and twenty-five days, of chronic myocarditis. The remains were removed to St. Louis, where they lay in state at the Delmar Blvd. until Thursday morning at 8:30 o'clock when the funeral was to St. Roses Church. Interment took place in Calvary Cemetery, where his wife is buried. Mr. LaGrave was born in Ste. Genevieve January 5th, 1840, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Anthony and Mary Valle LaGrave. January 5th, 1870, he was married to Miss Emilie T. Flamm who preceded him in death February 14th, 1910. To them were born ten children, of whom seven survive. They are Frederick, Frank, Daisy, Charles, Henry and Jules LaGrave, and Mrs. Theodore Douglas of Ste. Genevieve. One son Paul A. LaGrave died at Fort Worth, Texas, October 4th, 1929, one daughter Miss Marie LaGrave died October 10, 1900, and one son died in infancy. Mr. LaGrave was a descendant of the pioneer French settlers of Ste. Genevieve. He was for many years engaged as a mineral miner, but had retired from active business many years ago and was making his home with his children in St. Louis. Several weeks ago he had again come to Ste. Genevieve to spend the summer here with his daughter, Mrs. Theo. Douglas. Notwithstanding his advanced age he was remarkably well preserved and in apparently good health. Last Monday evening he retired somewhat earlier than usual and complained of feeling a little indisposed. While trying to make him comfortable it was noticed that a change had come over him and medical as well as spiritual assistance was summoned but he sank rapidly and at 8:30 Mr. LaGrave had quietly passed away. Mr. LaGrave was a member of the Confederate Veterans. He joined the army soon after the war began and after war he was an inspector for the State Bureau of Mines. The Herald extends sympathy to the bereaved relatives. May he rest in peace. He is buried in Cavalry Cemetery in St. Louis. His grave is located in Section 24 lot # 790 Grave # 2. He does not have a tombstone. He is buried between Emilie his wife and his daughter Marie. (Information furnished by members of Lt. Col. J.
