Obituary Source: Star News dated Tuesday February 2, 2010. Wayne Teague, 75, left this earth on January 30, 2010, following a long battle with Alzheimer's. Dannel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Funeral services will be held at Dannel Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at 2 p.m. with David Corder, Center Street Church of Christ officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Visitation was on Tuesday February 2, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. at Dannel Funeral Home. A proud Texan, Wayne was a direct descendant of the Reverend William Medford, the pioneer Methodist minister in Stephen F. Austin's colony. Wayne was born on Aug. 6, 1934, in McKinney to Tom and Euna Fay Smith Teague. He was a member of the graduating class at Sherman High School in 1952. An avid football fan, he never missed a Sherman Bearcat home game in 50 years. He married Nancy Lee Dollins on Dec. 26, 1955, in Sherman. They had enjoyed almost 54 years of marriage when she preceded him in death just a few short months ago. Wayne was an account executive with KXII-TV from 1965-1975, earning many sales achievement awards. From 1975-1988 he was the owner of MyWay Furniture in Denison. He then served as an independent furniture sales representative from 1990-2000. As a devoted member of the Sherman Noon Lions Club for more than 40 years, Wayne held the offices of secretary, vice president and president as well as numerous project and committee chair posts. He received the Outstanding Service award in 1967-1968 and was honored as Lion of the Year on two different occasions. He also served on the board of the Julien C. Hyer Lions International Youth Camp from 1975-1977. His community service also included serving as county publicity chairman of the United Fund Campaign of 1973, and he was a past president of the Grayson County Heart Fund. Wayne was known to many children as "Santa" because he played that role for many organizations, including the Sherman Christmas parade. Preceding Wayne in death were his parents, wife and brother Tom Wayne Teague. He is survived by his sons Dennis Teague of Dallas; Andrew Teague and wife Vicki of Pottsboro; daughter Robin Atherton and husband Larry of Sherman; adopted daughter Ellen Martin Bryant of Bonneville, Mississippi and Sherman; grandchildren Anjolee Atherton Mawford and husband Alexander of Denison, Austin Atherton of Sherman, Andrew Michael Teague of Sherman, Madison Parker and Travis Wayne Teague of Pottsboro. Pallbearers will be Alexander Mawford, Thomas Dollins, Jeff Dollins, Austin Atherton, Kelvin Clark and Andrew Teague. Honorary pallbearers will be Olan Atherton, James Dale Hill, the men of Center Street Church of Christ and the Sherman Noon Lions Club.
