Suggested edit: Herald Coaster, March 31, 1966: John W. Bezecny, 91, died in his home Saturday at 7:20 p.m. He was one of Fort Bend County's early settlers and the father of several area businessmen. Born in Czechoslovakia, the son of John and Veronika Syrinek Bezecny, he came to this country along with his parents, brothers, and sisters, at the age of seven years. They settled in Navidad, Fayette County, where he later married the former Mary Gaertner. In 1912, they moved to Fort Bend County and farmed in the Pleak area. For several years, he served as school board trustee of what was the Old Pleak School. He retired from farming in 1925 and moved to Rosenberg. The last few years, he had been blind and was bedridden for the past three months. Mr. and Mrs. Bezecny celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary last October 18. He was a charter member of SPJST Lodge #88 and of Fraternal Lodge Isadore of Rosenberg. Funeral services were held Monday in Rosenberg at 9:45 a.m., followed by Requiem Mass at Holy Rosary Catholic Church at 10. Officiating were Monsignor Jerome Tydlacka and Rev. Jessie Linam. Burial was in West Garden of Gethsemane. Pallbearers were his grandsons, Kenneth and Johnnie Bezecny, Elij Hutson, Conroy Bezecny, Gilbert Vallet, and George Lolley. Survivors are his wife, Mary Bezecny; four sons, Willie of Fairchild, George Emil and Eddie of Rosenberg; one daughter, Mrs. Tom (Lillian) Christiansen of Brazoria; 17 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
