Fort Bend Herald, August 26, 2009: A funeral mass for Alfred F. "Al" Becan, 76, of Rosenberg, will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1416 George St. in Rosenberg, with the Rev. William D. Bartniski officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow at West Gethsemane Cemetery in Rosenberg. Visitation will be held 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 26, in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. Al was born April 27, 1933 in Fort Worth to Joseph and Aloise Slovak Becan. He honorably served our country in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Al was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, a member of K.J.T. Society 90, S.P.J.S.T., and American Legion Post No. 271. He coached Little League and loved to listen and dance to polka music. Al and Vera enjoyed traveling to Louisiana for little excursions. He went to be with the Lord Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, in Houston. Al was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Aloise Becan; brothers, Jaromir Becan, Robert Becan, Dan Becan, and Francis Becan; and sister, Lillian Philpot. He is lovingly survived by his wife of over 49 years, Vera Chovanec Becan; children, Frances Veronica Becan of Rosenberg, Allen Becan and wife, Arlene, and their children, Ashley and Joshua Becan of Hallettsville, Alfred Becan and his children, Sarah, Hannah, Daniel, and David Becan of Beasley, Veronica Dash and husband, Jeffrey, and their children, Timothy, Christopher, and Katherine Dash of Lakeway, Joey Becan of Rosenberg, Patrick Becan and wife, Jofran, and their children, Justin and Jacob DeLeon of Marquez, and Samuel Becan and wife, Carol, and their children, Zachary, Blaise, Malachi, and Ezekiel Becan of Coral Springs, Fla; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends. Pallbearers will include all of Al's sons and his son-in-law. Honorary pallbearers will include all of Al's grandsons. The family wishes to give special thanks to the staff of Odyssey Hospice at the Heights Hospital for their help with Al's short battle with lung cancer. Memorial donations may be made in Al's name to Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Keep the Vision Alive, 1416 George St., Rosenberg, Texas 77471.
