Grand Island (Nebraska) Independent June, 1996 CAIRO--Ellen a. Kozel, 67, of Cairo, formerly of Ravenna, died Thursday at her home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Cairo United Methodist Church. The Rev. Allen Davis will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery in Ravenna. (other funeral arrangements omitted here) Mrs. Kozel was born on Jan. 1, 1929, at Sweetwater to John J. and Rose (Sorensen) Maixner. She graduated from Ravenna High School in 1946. She married Jim Kozel on Nov. 25, 1947, at Ravenna. The couple lived on a farm north of Ravenna. They moved to Cairo in 1971. She worked at the Nebraska Veterans Home until 1994. She was a volunteer for Heartland Shares and was the secretary for the Cairo Senior Center. Survivors included her husband; one son, James Jr. of St. Louis; three grandchildren; three sisters, Rosaline Wolf of Blue Rapids, Kan., Esther Glinsmann of Kearney and Marietta Daake of San Antonio; and three brothers, John L. Maixner of Ontario, Calif., Frank Maixner of Cairo and Raymond Maixner of Belgrade. She was preceded in death by one grandson. obit courtesy of diaNEB (#47466150)
