Funeral services for Thomas Alexander Harrell will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, January 23, 2016 in the First United Methodist Church in Oakdale with Reverend Andrew Pearson officiating. Committal service will follow in the Oakdale Cemetery under the direction of White Oaks Funeral Home, Oakdale. Tom, 87, of Houston County, Texas, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 with his loving family by his side. He was born March 5, 1928 in Wichita, Kansas to Dalton Thomas and Mary Garden Harrell. He was a United States Marine Veteran and served in WWII. He had a strong faith and belief in God and was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church. Professionally active as an attorney, he taught at Louisiana State University School of Law for 24 years and continued in professional activities for many years. He was married for 47 years to his first wife Billie Butchee and 17 years to his present wife, Kathleen. Tom loved cooking gourmet food; and enjoyed traveling to France and Belgium. He was a poet and prolific writer and loved telling natural humorous stories to his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his former wife, Billie Butchee Harrell; his parents, Dalton Thomas and Mary Garden Harrell; her parents, Roy and Mildred Butchee; his daughter-in-law, Linda Roland Harrell; two grandchildren, Brian Harrell and Lindsey Harrell. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Harrell of Houston County, Texas; three sons, Mike Harrell of Dallas, Texas, Butch (Gail) Harrell of Denham Springs, and Dick (Kristie) Harrell of Grosebeck, Texas; one daughter, Sally (Andy) Pearson of Starkville, Mississippi; three step-sons, Jesse (Sheila) Watson, Gregory (Lisa) Watson, and John (Shannon) Watson all of Houston, Texas; one step-daughter, Theresa (David) Epstein of Humble, Texas; one sister, Ethel (Leland) Moses of DeRidder; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren who knew him as “Cookie Monster”; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Pallbearers to serve will be Michael Harrell, John Watson, Gregory Watson, Nick Hester, Ricky Moses, and David Moses. Visitation will be held at 2 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church in Oakdale, Saturday, January 23, 2016.
