Husband of Rosetta Barney Chauncey OBIT: Crawfordsville Journal, Tues., March 22, 1910 David W. Chauncey died at his late residence in Wingate Saturday evening, March 19, aged 76 years. The immediate cause of his death was paralysis. Early in the week he was stricken while walking from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Dr. Dickerson, and died without regaining consciousness. The larger part of Mr. Chauncey's life was spent in Illinois. He was born at Olney and was married when 20 years old. Seven years after his marriage, he enlisted in the 8th Illinois Infantry Volunteers. His army career lasted over a period of three years, during which time he fought in nine important battles. At Fort Donnelson he was struck by bursting shell and remained unconscious for many hours. The marks of this injury were carried through life. The long illness which preceded his death and which culminated in paralysis is attributed to this injury. Mr. Chauncey was a member of the Wingate M.E. Church. The widow and four children survive. The funeral service was held at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning at the late residence, Rev. W.C. Aye of the M.E. Church officiating.
