Macoupin Co, Enquirer, Carlinville, Illinois 1 Mar 1893 Died - At her home in Shipman Saturday at 9 p.m., Feb. 25th, Mrs. Nancy Shultz. Miss Nancy Shockey was born in Somerset county, PA., May 19th, 1802, and was united in marriage to Mr. Adam Shultz in the above county in 1819. Her husband dying in 1864, accompanied by her family, Mrs. Shultz came West and located at Shipman in 1866. The exemplary devoted wife was the mother of 14 children, each one of whom she raised to man and womanhood. Those who survive their aged parent are Judge C. F.(Chauncey Forward Shultz) and J. J.(John Andrew Jackson Shultz) Shultz, of St. Louis; Meshak (Meshach) Shultz, Mrs. (Huldah Shultz) Kight, and Mrs (Mary Jane Shultz Arendt) Arnett of Shipman; A. (Alexander) Shultz, Garden City, Ks.; Mrs. (Amanda Shultz) Augustine, Hastings, Neb.; James U.(Shultz) and George D. (George Marshall Dallas Shultz) Independence, Mo. The funeral occured from the Lutheran church Monday afternoon, and was attended by a large concourse of people, Rev. Fraser conducting the service. In her individuality Mrs. Shultz represented one of the highest types of American womanhood. Endowed with a strong will, possessing excellent judgment and clear reasoning facilities, she taught her children the principles of justice, charity, moral excellence and religious devotion. Weary and worn with days so lengthened and night so peaceful, after a life rounded out with worthy acts, noble deeds, tireless energy and usefulness. She turned from life's cares and joys and laid down life's burden, departing full of years, leaving a legacy of duty well performed, a larger and sweeter charity, a broader and higher christianity for having lived and labored and prayed. Let those who were dear to her in life, as the look for the last time upon that couontenance from which no glance of recognition comes and reflects upon the impenetrable and insoluable mystery of death, be comforted and consoled in that the morning is to dawn upon the night in which she sleeps; the springing grasses will come and mantle her grave, while the blue sky of perpetual sunshine smiles upon her dreamless repose.
