Bio
His full name was Joshua Long but he was called "Josh". Josh married Nancy Rivers on June 21, 1840 in Morgan Co., Alabama. His birth year is shown as 1824 on the headstone which would make his age 16 when he married. However, this date is probably incorrect since most census records show him to be born about 1820. 1840 Alabama Census, Morgan County, Northern District, Regiment 6, pg. 9. "J. Long" is shown as a white male, age 20-30. His new wife Nancy was shown as a white female, age 20-30. There were no others living in the household and Joshua & Nancy were newlyweds. Josh was living next to his father Reuben Long. 1850 Alabama Census, Morgan County, Somerville, District 9, page 269, household #428. He was listed as "Joshua Langer". He was still living next door to his father Reuben Long. Joshua was shown as age 33, living with his wife Nancy and 4 children. The household next door to them (#429) was "Danl Eudy" and his wife Laura and their son Levi. Laura (Lora) Eudy was the sister of Nancy (Rivers) Long. In 1860, Joshua and Nancy's whereabouts for the 1860 Federal Census is unknown. It is believed they moved to Arkansas or Oklahoma in the late 1850's. 1870 Arkansas Census, Pike County, Thompson Township, Murfreesboro Post Office. Josh was listed as age 45, living with his wife Nancy and 3 youngest children. The household next door to Joshua and Nancy Long was that of their son, James Monroe Long and his new wife, Francis B. (Buckley) Long. Also on this census was the household of Joshua's brother Henry Long and his second wife, Josephine Whitfield Long. 1880 Texas Census, Lamar County, Precinct 7, page 266B. "Joshaway Long" was listed as age 61 and was living with his wife Nancy and youngest son Andrew.
