John and Anna Prasel Holecek were both born in Czechoslovakia. When they married they settled near Austria and Germany. They then decided to move to Poland were they farmed for five years. On or about 1888 they decided they would head for Canada. They hopped on a cargo supply ship filled with wheat and grain bound for Canada. Mid journey the ship began to take on water. They were recued by a smaller ship bound for New York. After several weeks at sea they arrived in New York. They stayed in New York for a while, then deciding that Texas would be better place than Canada, so they boarded a ship for Texas. Several weeks later they arrived in Galveston, Texas. From Galveston, Texas on or about March 1890, they took a train to Tours, Texas. They then rented a farm in Tours, Texas. After a while they moved to Cottonwood where they rented another farm. John and Anna had five children: Marie, Frances, John, Wesley, and Anna.
