HAMMOND Dorothy Ann Obituary 2008 Kalamazoo Gazette; Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo, Michigan; Published Monday, 10 Mar 2008. HAMMOND, Dorothy Ann Age 81 Of Three Rivers (Formerly of Fulton) Passed away Saturday, March 8, 2008 at the Kairos Dwelling Place in Kalamazoo. She was born in Kalamazoo on September 19, 1926, a daughter of Lyman Clinton and Sarah Mable (Young) Harrison. Dorothy graduated from Athens High School in 1944. On July 28, 1944 she married Merle Lyle Hammond in the Fulton Christian Church. He preceded her in death on July 4, 1997. Dorothy was a wonderful mother and homemaker. She was a member of the Fulton Christian Church since 1945. Dorothy had been an active member of the church guild, she taught Sunday School for 38 years and she and her husband, Merle, led the youth group for 15 years. Dorothy was proud that she had won first place in the state for Baton Twirling. She also loved going to her children and grandchildren's many sporting events. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Sarah Jane (Ken) Hagelgans of Colon; sons, Thomas (Sue) Hammond of Colon, Timothy Hammond of Marquette, Theodore (Karen) Hammond of Vicksburg, Terriel (Cindy ) Hammond of Three Rivers, Trent (Robin) Hammond of Sherwood, and sister, Reah Chichester. Also surviving are her grandchildren Gayle (Jeff) Barnes, Mike (Lesley) Hagelgans, Jennifer Hammond, Kathy (James) Kimmerle, Jeff (Jenny) Hammond, Travis (Jenny) Hammond, Heather Hammond, Lindsay Hammond, Abby Hammond, Courtney Hammond, Jordan Hammond, Heidi Hammond, Tony Hammond and Bethann Hammond, great grandchildren Lauryn Barnes, Annalee Miller-Hammond, Damen Hagelgans, Ethan Kimmerle, and Kirsten Hammond. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five sisters, Julia Catherman, Ruth Snyder, Unah Hayward, Nina Jenkins, Lola Gould, and two brothers Walter and George Harrison. Relatives and friends will be received Tuesday from 2-8 PM at Eley Funeral Home in Centreville where Eastern Star Services will follow at 8 PM. Religious Services will be held Wednesday 11:00 AM at the Fulton Christian Church with Pastor Trent Hammond officiating. Interment will be in North Fulton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kairos Dwelling Place, 2945 Gull Road, Kalamazoo, MI 49001.
