The Atlantic News Telegraph, Atlantic, Iowa June 29, 1963, Page 1 C. H. Christensen Dies Following Long Illness Chris H. Christensen, 81, of 409 Popular street, a retired farmer, died at 3:15 Friday afternoon at the Atlantic Memorial hospital, where he had been a patient four months. He was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, Sept. 8, 1881, the son of Lawrence Peter and Marie Christensen and came to the United States with his parents in 1884, settled in Scranton. He grew to manhood in Greene county and was married to Sena Hansen in Neola, march 3, 1906. They farmed near Panora until moving to the Atlantic community and retired from the farm in 1968. Mr. Christensen was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church. Surviving are his wife, four sons, George P. Christensen of Arvada, Colo., Ted Christensen of Wiota and Max and Freddie Christensen of Casey; five daughters, Mrs. Pearl Bebensee and Mrs. Marjorie McMurphy of Atlantic, Mrs. Thelma Templeman of Stuart, Mrs. Johanna Lind and Mrs. Erma Furlonf of Des Moines; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Christensen of Exira and Mrs. Mary Michaelson of Omaha; two brothers, Charles Christensen of Leon and Harry Christensen of Coon Rapids, 23 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Anna Darlene James, died Jan. 18, 1961 and he was preceded in death by two sisters, Agnes and Tillie and a brother, Pete Christensen. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at St. Paul's Lutheran church, Thirteenth and Cherry streets, the Rev. R. L. Christensen officiating. Interment will be in the Atlantic cemetery. The remains will be taken from the Roland funeral home to the church Monday morning. The family will meet relatives and friends at the funeral home from 7:30 to 9 Sunday evening. Christensen at St. Paul's Lutheran church this afternoon at 2 o'clock. Don H. Nelson accompanied by Mrs. Edward Ackerman sang, "Rock of Ages" and "The Lord's Prayer." Mrs. J. C. Jensen and Mrs. Ray Nelson were in charge of flowers. Grandsons serving as casket bearers were Marvin Templeman, Robert Bebensee, Merlyn Christensen, Ronald Christensen, Delbert Christensen, Larry Christensen, Mervyn Christensen and Gary Christensen. Interment was in the Atlantic cemetery.
