Bio

Theodoric G. Jones and Bettie W. Graves were married December 24, 1868 in the Chapel of Fairfield Female Academy, Fairfield, Texas. Jones was a practicing attorney in Fairfield, Betty a member of the faculty at the Academy. She was born April 16, 1840 in Social Circle, Georgia. Dr.Henry Lee Graves, father of Bettie, was a pioneer Baptist preacher who came to Texas from Georgia in 1847 to become first president of Baylor University at Independence, Texas. He also was a Pastor of Independence Baptist Church, and was first President of the Baptist State Convention in 1848. He was a Master Mason, member of Milam Lodge No. 11, A.F. &A.M. in Independence, Texas As a widower with three children Theo married Bettie William Graves. In 1925 Bettie Graves Jones filed application for widow's pension of Theodoric G. Jones' Civil War Service. She died July 8, 1935 in Dallas, Dallas, Texas. Her internment is at Restland Memorial Cemetery, Dallas, Dallas, Texas.
