Eliza was born to David Udall and his first wife, Eliza King. David had two more plural wives, besides his first wife. Although Eliza's headstone says she died April 18, 1913, her death certificate says she died April 22, 1913. Eliza lived with her parents in Nephi Utah. When her father took two other wives, Eliza lived with them, also. Eliza married Ammon Meshach Tenney December 12, 1872 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Ammon was 28 years old; Eliza was 17. Eliza was a plural wife, as Ammon was already married and had three children by his first wife, Anna Sariah Eagar. In the late 1800s, federal officials began actively arresting polygamists. Both of Ammon's wives went to Arizona to hide out, so they wouldn't be caught and made to testify that they were, indeed, both married to Ammon. They went to Snowflake, Arizona. They later moved to St. Johns, Arizona, where they were living when Ammon was tried for polygamy. In 1884, Ammon was convicted of practicing polygamy and was sentenced to a 3 1/2 year sentence in the Detroit House of Corrections. He served two years of the sentence before he was pardoned by President Cleveland. While he was in prison, Eliza and Ammon's first wife, Anna Sariah Eagar (Tenney), lived in St. Johns, Arizona. After Ammon was released from prison, both families stayed in St. Johns for a time. In 1890 Ammon wanted another plural wife, so he went to Mexico to marry his third wife, Hettie Millicent Adams. Ammon then moved all three families to Mexico, where they lived until 1912, when they were all driven out by Mexican revolutionaries. After leaving Mexico, Eliza went to live with her daughter, Phoebe Relief Tenney (Gardner). Ammon's third wife, Hettie, moved to Thatcher, Arizona; his first wife, Anna, moved to Utah. Ammon moved to El Paso, Texas. Eliza died of uterine cancer at the relatively young age of 58. Eliza and Ammon had two children together: Olive Eliza Tenney (1874 - 1928) Phoebe Relief Tenney (1876 - 1966)
