An Obituary from "Gatesville Messenger & Star Forum," Friday, June 12, 1959: Funeral services were held here Saturday afternoon for Edgar Owen Sims, 27, former Coryell County resident who lost his life in an explosion at the Chance Vought aircraft plant near Dallas last Friday. Rev. G. L. Derrick and Rev. Ollie Williams conducted the rites at the Calvary Baptist Church and burial was in Restland Cemetery with Scott's in charge. Pallbearers were James Sims, Harvey Sims, Alton Sims, C. F. Doyle, Raby Baker and D. C. Barton. Mr. Sims, a radar electronics technician for Chance Vought, was checking the equipment of a jet fighter when a pressurized radar dome blew up in the nose of the airplane. ...Mr. Sims was a native of Pearl. He was a graduate of Gatesville High School and of Schreiner Institute in Kerrville. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1951 to 1955. He joined Chance Vought two years ago after serving as a technician for the Army Signal Corps General Depot in Fort Worth. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Pearl Sims of Gatesville; three brothers, Arthur Sims of Valley Mills, Herman Sims of Gatesville and Milford Sims of Hico; two sisters, Mrs. W. M. Moore of Gatesville and Mrs. Ollie Gaston of Gatesville; and his grandfather, R. W. Boykin of Valley Mills.
