An Obituary from "Gatesville Messenger & Star Forum," Thursday, November 28, 1974: Funeral services for Dr. and Mrs. Pat Hale Roach, young Gatesville Couple killed in a traffic accident near Austin Friday night, were held at 4 p.m. Sunday at the First United Methodist Church. Rev. Plez Todd conducted the services, and burial was in Restland Cemetery with Scott's in charge. Dr. Roach, 29, had opened a dental office in Gatesvillelast August after completing an 11-month tour of duty with the U.S. Air Force in Thailand. Mrs. Roach, 28, and their four-year-old son, Par Garner Roach, had come to Gatesville when Dr. Reach left for overseas duty in mid-summer of 1973. Dr. Reach and the former Miss Joyce Elizabeth Garner of Temple were married June 16, 1967, in Gatesville, shortly after he had received his bacheor of science degree from Texas A. and M. University. He received a doctor of dental surgery degree from the University of Texas Dental Branch in Houston in May, 1971, and went on active duty in the Air Force the following month. He served three years as a dental officer in the Air Force and was stationed at Richards-Gebaur AFB in Missouri before going to Thailand. He was discharged with the rank of captain. Mrs. Roach was born in Temple Sept. 19, 1946. A 1965 graduate of Temple High School, she attended Temple Junior College, Mary Hardin-Baylor College at Belton and the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Roach was born in Waco March 8, 1945, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. (Jack) Roach of Gatesville, and was reared in this city. He was a 1963 honor graduate of Gatesville High School, where he was a varsity football star. Both Dr. and Mrs. Roach were members of the First United Methodist Church. He was recently made a member of the church's administrative board. In addition to his parent, and son, Dr. Roach is survived by a brother, Jack Roach of Arlington and his grandmother, Mrs. Marie Roach of Gatesville. Mrs. Roach is survived by her son; her mother, Mrs. Henrietta Everett of Temple; two sisters, Mrs. Jerry Smith of Topeka, Kan. and Patty Everett of Temple; two brothers, James Garner of Temple and Patrick Everett of Temple; and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Matous of Temple. She was preceded in death by her father, Willis R. Garner. Pallbearers for Mrs. Roach's funeral were Randy Sandefur, Mike Matous, Bruce Matous, Gaylen Matous, Wesley Matous, and Wayne Matous. Pallbearers for Dr. Roach's funeral were James (Babe) Sims, Joe Barton, Bob Edwards, David Martin, Daryl Maxwell, and Edwin Powell. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Wendell Lowrey, Dr. Elworth Lowrey, Dr. William Floyd, Dr. Joe Kenworthy and Dr. T. R. Williams.
