Bio

1st married Mary B. Martin, daughter of Thomas Martin, granddaughter of Brice Martin. Mary is mother of his daughter Effie Ausburn Wood. She died by 1875 Private, Company A, 2nd Tennessee Henry joined the Union Army at Cumberland Gap in Aug 1862. He was 18 years old and said he was born in Sullivan Co, TN. He was 5 ft 5 inches tall and a fair complexion and dark hair and eyes. He is listed on the enlistmant card as a Musician. In Apr of 1864 Henry got into a fight with Lt. J W Bell. Henry stabbed Bell several times. Henry was charged with "Assault with intent to Kill". He pleaded Not guilty but was found quilty and was sentenced to be shot. This sentence was remitted and he was sent to Military prison for 5 years. Henry wrote several Generals and senators asking that they look at his record and to consider remitting his sentence. He sent a letter from the guards and men who worked at the Prison in Nashville, It was signed by 16 men who said Henry was a fine young man and should be released. After 6 months of letters, he was released in Dec of 1865. He applied for a pension 9 Dec 1889 and it was refused in Oct 1891. It was denied because he was dishonorably discharged.
