An Obituary from "Gatesville Messenger & Star Forum," Thursday, December 9, 1993: Mrs. Vera McLeroy of Gatesville died Sunday in a local hospital. She was 82. Graveside services were held Tuesday at Restland Cemetery with Rev. Rex Tilly officiating. She was born July I, 1911, in Roberson County, daughter of the late Edward and Sally Freeman. She was reared and attended school in the Union community. She married Sam McLeroy on December 24, 1930, in Centerville. They made their home in Roberson County until moving to Coryell County in 1942. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. Survivors include her husband; four daughters, Geneva Henderson of Midland, Barbara Herndon of Gatesville, Virginia Skeen of Duncanville, Oklahoma, and Gerrie Kennedy of Oceanside, California: three sisters, Thelma Parrish of Dallas, Reba Sample of Bryan and Maudine Humphrey of Willis; two brothers, Wilson Freeman of Houston and Glen Freeman of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Randy Kennedy, Kevin Kennedy, Mike Duncan, Bob Duncan, Brian Brown, and Kevin Thompson. Honorary pallbearers were Miguel Gonzales Gurth, Gary Barba, Jim Baize, Dustin Rauschenberg and Nathan Cooper. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
