Bio

Madge Lisle died Sunday morning in Oklahoma City from heart complications. Madge was a true matriarch— called the "Big Boss" by A.C. Lisle, her husband of 63 years —and the influence of her powerful personality will remain though she is gone. Traditional and independent, she combined small-town conservatism with worldly cosmopolitanism. A proud and intelligent woman of conviction, she was also generous and loving. To her grandchildren, she was "Bom Bom." Margery Winfred Troup was born July 21, 1923 in Electra, Texas. Her family eventually settled in Holdenville, Oklahoma, where she attended high school. Madge began her higher education at Christian Female College in Columbia, Missouri, before attending the University of Oklahoma. As a student, she met Achilles Courtney Lisle, Jr. For much of their lives together, Madge and A.C. traveled extensively around the world, satisfying her taste for different cultures and cultivating her interest in folk art — particularly that of southeast Asia and the American Southwest. They most often visited their eastern Oklahoma lake house; summer resorts in central Minnesota; Moab, Utah; and Santa Fe. Madge was an able artist in a variety of media, a skilled cook, an avid sports fan, a golfer, and a licensed pilot. In recent years she particularly enjoyed creating beautiful and original quilts for her grandchildren, knitting for the Infant Crisis Center, and playing bridge with friends every week. She will be missed deeply by her husband, A.C.; her brother, Rudolph; her three sons and their spouses: Court and Ruth, James and Pauline, and David and Cheryl; her six grandchildren and their spouses: Benjamin, Turner and Christine, Carolyn and Jon, Autumn and Deke, Elizabeth, and Kylie; her four great-grandchildren: Rheanna, Owen, Olivia, and Anna. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Infant Crisis Services at 4224 North Lincoln Blvd., Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73105 (phone number (405) 528-3663). The memorial service will be Wednesday, December 30, at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper at 6600 Broadway Extension, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73116.
