Robert Wayne Cervenka Born in Victoria, Texas on Feb. 19, 1942 Departed on Jan. 1, 2009 and resided in Austin, TX. Funeral Service: Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009 Cemetery: Forest Oaks Memorial Park Robert Wayne Cervenka was born Feb. 19, 1942 in Victoria, Texas to the late Frank John and Leona Matilda Cervenka. Bob went home to be with his Savior on Thursday, January 1, 2009 at St. David's Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. After attending Travis High School, Bob served in the US Navy and later joined the Austin Police Department where he retired in 1994 as a detective after serving 31 years. Bob always gave of himself and it was reflected greatly in his life. A committed Christian man, he was ordained as a Deacon at Fitzhugh Baptist Church where he was a longtime member. There he taught Youth Sunday school and was very active in many areas of the church. He loved camping, golfing, fishing, spending time with his family and especially attending his grandchildren's sporting events. Most of all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Cervenka; brothers and sister, Alvin Cervenka, Madlyn Hays and Kenneth Cervenka. Surviving are his loving wife, Sue Sherman Cervenka of Austin; children, "Little Joe" and Leslie Jackson of Austin, Jill and Sam Shackelford of Austin, Bobby and Jody Cervenka of Lake Charles, LA, Karen Cervenka Hickman and fiancé', Robby Bohn of Shreveport, LA; daughter-in-law, Shelli Glendenning of Driftwood; 12 grandchildren, Kyle, Beth and Drew Jackson, Jordan and Ridge Shackelford, Alexandra and Samantha Cervenka, Hannah Hickman, Mason, Tanner and Caleb Cervenka; brother, Dan Cervenka of Baytown; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William P. Butler. Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M. Sunday, January 4, 2009 at Bannockburn Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Kelly officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Oaks Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Ernest Shugart, Ken Edwards, Jimmy Young, Mel Arldt, Bo Henry and Gene Allen. Memorial contributions may be made to the Michael Cervenka Scholarship Fund at Hays Hills Baptist Church or to the Bob Cervenka Youth Scholarship Fund at Fitzhugh Baptist Church.
