An Obituary from "Gatesville Messenger & Star Forum," Thursday, April 3, 1975: Ernest H. Chitwood, 82, of Levita died at 8 a.m. Saturday in the local hospital. He was a retired rancher and a longtime Coryell County resident. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Monday at Scott's Funeral Home chapel, with Rev. Wesley Jones officiating. Burial was in Restland Cemetery. Born in Bonham on Aug. 25, 1892, Mr. Chitwood lived in the Gatesville area most of his life. He was a veteran of World War I. In addition to his ranching activities, he was employed at the Gatesville State Schools for Boys for a number of years. He married Miss Kate Crawford in 1918, and she died in 1960. He married Mrs. Stella Russell April 23, 1966. Mr. Chitwood was a Presbyterian. He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mrs. A. K. (Ernestine) Huckabee of Gatesville; one grandson, Mike Huckebee; three stepsons, Paul Russell of Rt. 3, Gatesville, Bob Russell of New York and Jimmy Russell of Kingsville; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Aaron Roberts of Gatesville; two brothers, Luther Chitwood of Gatesville and A. B. Chitwood, Jr. of Ruidoso, N. M.; and three sisters, Mrs. Oscar Johnson of Tulla, Mrs. Bill Graham of Kress and Mrs. Thomas Logan of Seminole. Pallbearers for Mr. Chitwood's funeral were B. M. Huckabee, Rennie Russell, A. A. Behringer, Creston Brazzil, Jackie Russell and Gene Chitwood.
