Born in Arkansas, Gertrude was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Henry Alsobrook. She married Albert J. Hadden on 27 Mar 1910 in Columbia County, Arkansas. He died that same year. Gertrude then married a Missourian named Tom "Harry" Goddard on 01 Jun 1913 in Illmo, Scott County, Missouri. They lived in Sharp County, Arkansas where he was a farmer. By 1920, they were the parents of 2 children, who were born there. Gertrude and Harry moved to Perry County, Illinois in the early 1920's. A son, Edward, died in infancy in 1925. In 1944, the Goddards' oldest son, William, was lost during World War II. He was reported missing in action during duty in Holland. Eventually, William's MIA status was changed by the military to FOD (finding of death). At the time of her death in 1951, Gertrude was 61 years, 3 months and 12 days old.
