SANTA FE, Dec. 15 (AP) - Calvin Riley Jones, 25, was killed today when his car hit a culvert 17 miles south of Santa Fe. Papers on him listed two addresses Box 782, LeFors, Texas, and Apartment 676 Thil [sic] Br., Borger, Texas. Officers said he apparently went to sleep at the wheel. Mex., Dec. 15 (AP) - A Texas man's death early Saturday pushed the New Mexico traffic death toll to 365 for the year. State police identified him from papers as Calvin Riley Jones, 25, of Borger, Texas. Officers said Jones apparently nodded at the wheel. His car left U.S. Highway 285 and hit a culvert near Lamy, 17 miles south of Santa Fe. State Police listed him as the 365th traffic fatality so far this year. They identified the victim as Calvin Riley Jones, 25. They found two different addresses among his papers, Lefors, and Borger, Texas. The accident happened at 5:30 a.m. Officers said Jones was traveling alone at high speed and apparently went to sleep at the wheel. (Published in Las Cruces Sun-News (Las Cruces, New Mexico) - Sun, Dec 16, 1951 - Page 4) ----- Calvin Riley (Sandy) Jones, 25-year-old former resident of Lefors, was killed Saturday when his car hit a culvert 17 miles south of Santa Fe. Jones, who was believed to have been returning from a hunting trip in New Mexico, apparently went to sleep at the wheel of his car. Funeral services are scheduled at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Canadian. Burial will be in the family plot at Panhandle. He is survived by his wife, Mary; a daughter, Karen, 2; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D.M. Jones, Lefors, and five aunts, Mrs. Floyd Lee of McLean; Mrs. Ethel Fairchild, Douglas, Ariz.; Thelma Mankin of Council Hill, Okla.; Mrs. Charles Burkett of Clayton, N.M.; and Anna Claussen of Groom. Mr. Jones was born in Lefors and attended school there until he joined the Navy in 1944, according to Mrs. Lee. Upon his discharge, he enrolled in West Texas State college and complete his high school requirements and did two years of college work. At the time of his death, he was employed by Phillips Petroleum Co. in Borger with his home in Bunavista. Mrs. Jones' parents are Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Lindley of Canadian.
