The Salina Journal, 10 Jun 1946. DIES AT AGE OF 75 Joel Austain's [sic] Funeral To Be Held Tuesday Joel Austain [sic], 75, who went to the tuberculosis hospital at Norton about four weeks ago, died there at 6 Saturday night. His home here is at 1329 North third. Mr. Austain [sic] was born February 12, 1871 in Arkansas and has lived in Salina since 1903. A member of the Baptist church, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Austain [sic] and four grandchildren, Earl Robert Austain [sic], Mrs. Dorothy Mae Anderson and Miss Hazel Arlene Austain [sic], all of this city, and Merle I. Austain [sic], Glendale. His son, William Edward Austain [sic], died in 1941. Brothers are James Austain [sic], Parsons and a twin brother, George Austain [sic], who lives in California. Funeral services will be held at the Ryan Mortuary Tuesday afternoon at 2 with Rev. Hugh Chittenden in charge. The body was brought here from Norton Sunday.
