Bio

Anchorage Daily News March 4, 2006 Anchorage resident Oscar Lee Farless, 67, died Feb. 27, 2006, at home from pancreatic cancer. A visitation was held with a service at Witzleben's Bragaw Chapel, 1707 S. Bragaw St. The Rev. Norman Lindsay officiated. Burial was at Fort Richardson National Cemetery. A celebration of life was held at South Anchorage Assembly of God. Pallbearers included Arcenio Charleston, Gary Farless, Steve Farless, Leo Ramirez, John Dommek and Greg Farless. Mr. Farless was born Aug. 28, 1938, in Shreveport, La. He attended high school and college in Florida. Mr. Farless served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a corporal from 1956-1960, as a combat engineer in demolitions. He moved to Alaska in July 1994. Mr. Farless served 25 years as a law enforcement officer in St. Lucie County, Fla.; road patrol officer and homicide detective, and a crimes against persons detective. He retired from St. Lucie County Sheriff's Department in Fort Pierce, Fla. He was affiliated with South Anchorage Assembly of God. He also served on the Deacon Board for First Assembly of God in Fort Pierce, the Anchorage Native Assembly and South Anchorage Assembly of God. Family wrote: "He enjoyed cooking, reading Louis L'Amour books, gardening, fishing, hiking, traveling, spending time with family, friends and the love of his life, Diana. "Oscar was a devoted family man. He loved his children and grandchildren and was (the best) father of all time. His life was (full of) love and adventure, (and he created) good memories with the new sights and experiences that he shared with ... Diana. Most of all, he was a man of honor, integrity and laughter, who had a deep love and devotion for God and his church family." He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Diana of Anchorage; children, Steve, Gary, Tami, Melissa, Greg and Michael of Florida; Angela of Virginia, Rachael and Arcenio Charleston, and Lydia Farless, all of Anchorage; mother, Lydia Farless; brothers and sister, James, Jerry and Joyce, all of the Lower 48; 21 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
