Bio

Nancy Ellen Wiley was born near Richland Township, Guernsey County, Ohio, the daughter of David and Catharine Wiley. In 1855, she moved with her family from Ohio to Marion County, Iowa, settling at Dallas Township in 1856. She married William B. Mason in Dallas Township on December 29, 1868, and by 1873, had moved to Alma, Harlan County, Nebraska, with her husband and children. Ida (1871-) and Henry L. (1873-), were born at Dallas Township. Their remaining three children were born near Alma in Harlan County, Nebraska: Lester Harlan ( 1875-), Effie E. (1878-) and William Garrett (1880-). Her husband died in 1881 at the age of 35 years. Nancy never remarried and remained in Harlan County until her death in 1917 at her home north of the town of Orleans. Her obituary stated that she was "an early settler in Harlan County."
