I have changed Mrs. Fudge's maiden name to Wilson - 05-14-2013 - Carla Abilene Reporter October 6, 1999 Ora Faye Fudge MERKEL — Ora Faye Fudge, 80, died Tuesday, October 5, 1999, in her home. Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Avoca Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Griffith officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery, directed by Girdner-Brown Funeral Home. Mrs. Fudge was born in Ellis County in 1919. She grew up in the Hamlin area and attended the Flat Top School, a one-room schoolhouse that still stands northeast of Hamlin. She married Doyle Floyd Fudge in 1936. He preceded her in death. She was a Baptist, a certifies nurse's aide and was an employee at the Merkel Nursing Home for 12 years. Survivors include four daughters, Rose Taylor of Merkel, Nancy Fudge of Niceville, Fla., Dorthy Teague of Odessa and Dora Bombardier of Hurst; five sons, James Fudge of Niceville, Fla., Lynn Fudge of Abilene, Bobby Taylor of Merkel, J.C. Teague of Odessa and Fern Bombardier of Hurst; a sister, Ruby Lee of Phoenix, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, 111 Elm, from 6-8 p.m. today. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hendrick Hospice, P.O. I made an error when I noted that her mother was Georgia Ann Perdue. This was the mother of my maternal grandfather, Floyd Doyle Fudge.
