Bio

Private, 22nd Brigade, Texas, CSA Bernhard Wilde was born in Westphalia, Germany, and immigrated to Texas when he was 8 years old, landing with his parents, Katherine and Hermann Wilde, at Corpus Christi, and making their home at Castroville. A year later they moved to Colorado County. Bernard Wilde enlisted for 3 months as a private in unattached 22nd Brigade on January 13, 1863, in Colorado County, Texas. The captain was Z. M. P. Rabb. The muster roll index card for Pvt. Bernard Wilde notes "Arms mostly rifles & shotguns, but unarmed; Acctrs. such as citizens have...sta. at Columbus, Tex., Jan. 13–63; ordered to leave Columbus Jan. 17–63 to report to Maj. S. G. Dickinson, AAG, Houston; 1 MR did. Jan. 13 to F. 13–63. Detailed to haul for Capt. John E. Gary, Asst. Qr. Master at Columbus, Texas." He married Anna Halfmann, and the couple had 10 children. Survivors included his widow and 9 children: William H. Wilde, Frederick Wilde, and Mrs. G. H. Dierschke of Ballinger; Bernhard Wilde Jr. of Fayetteville; Louis R. Wilde, Mrs. Louis Warschak, and Herman M. Wilde of Rockhouse; and Mrs. Walter M. Henkhaus of Fayetteville. Biography compiled by Sheron Smith-Savage. Sources: Pvt.
