Bio

Gene Hruska, 84, formerly of Sterling and Denver, died Friday at his son's home in Ogden, Utah. He lived in Sterling from 1953 to 1963. Funeral is 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Leaviits Chapel of Flowers Mortuary in Ogden. Hruska was born May 13, 1907, near Temple, Tex., to Alois and Frances (Kohut) Hruska. On Nov. 21, 1932, he married Mildred Fann of Running Water, Tex., in Clovis, N.M. The self-taught welder moved to Bishop, Tex., in 1942 and started his lifetime business, Bishop Contract Welding. In 1953 he moved his family to Sterling and he moved to Denver in 1963. Hobbies included hunting, fishing, music and sports, especially football and basketball. Survivors include a half brother, Victor Cervinka of Temple; a sister, Amelia Bowman of Portland, Ore.; his wife, Mildred of Sterling; three sons, Robert of Ogden, James of Eldora, Iowa, and Raymond of Salina, Kan.; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, a sister and two half brothers
