Bio
Msgt. Ret. Louis R. Janek, Sr., age 85 of West, passed away early Tuesday morning, August 19, 1997 at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco. A rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. August 20 at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West by the Rev. Ed Karasek. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. August 21 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West with the Rev. Earl Hedberg as celebrant. Military honors will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery near West with honor guard provided by V.F.W. Post No. 4819 in West. Mr. Janek was born May 22, 1912 in Cottonwood, the son of Anton and Mary Janek. He attended the Aquilla schools. He married Stasie Jaska on February 22, 1943 in West. He was a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force for over 30 years before retiring in 1967. He was stationed at North Carolina, Kansas, South America, San Antonio, Japan and the Connally Air Force Base. He also participated in the Berlin Airlift in 1947. He was a manager of the V.F.W. Club in West from 1977 to 1987. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post No. 4819 in West, Knights of Columbus No. 2305 in West and St.. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. He is survived by his wife, Stasie Janek of West; three sons, Louis R. Janek, Jr. of West, Robert (Bobby Joe) Janek and Jonathan J. (Tiger) Janek of Austin; three daughters, Veronica (Nica) Eckols of Buda, Stasie M. Cocek of Tyler and Stephanie (Tappy) Vanek of West; and ten grandchildren. Pallbearers were Dane Eckols, Colby Eckols, Jason Janek, Jonathan Cocek, Jerry Janek and Jerome (Buddy) Lednicky. Aderhold Funeral Home in West was in charge of arrangements.
