John F. Schroeder, age 85 of West, died Thursday morning, May 7, 1998 in Hillcrest Baptist Memorial Hospital in Waco. Rosary was recited 2 p.m. May 10 followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 2:15 p.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery near West. Mr. Schroeder was born September 26, 1912 in Wichita Falls and had lived in the Abbott area most of his life before moving to West in 1987. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West and a 50 year member of the K.J.T. Society #107 of Abbott. Mr. Schroeder was a retired farmer, a veteran farmer, a veteran of World War II serving in the Army and stationed in Germany for three years. He was a member of V.F.W. Post #4819 of West. Mr. Schroeder married Ellen Grellhesl, March 4, 1946 in Tours. Survivors include his wife, Ellen of West; one brother, Lawrence Schroeder of Wichita Falls; three sisters, Mary Jane Bray and Helen Williams of Wichita Falls and Cora Marie Agata of Possum Kingdom, TX, and several nieces and nephews. Active Pallbearers were Steven Kucera, Paul Kucera, Dan Ferguson, Eugene Sulak, Damon Schroeder, John Schroeder, Kevin Schroeder and William Grellhesl.
