IH-35 Near Elm Mott, West Man Fatally Injured In Accident Tuesday A chain-reaction collision near Elm Mott Tuesday afternoon resulted in the death of Richard Frank Kubacak, 21, of West and critically injured two other West men. The wreck occurred at about 1:25 p.m. in Interstate 35, south of FM road 308, according to Department of Public Safety officials. The injured persons were taken to Providence Hospital in Waco, where Kubacak was pronounced dead on arrival.* *Exerpt The West News, West, Texas, Volume 91, No. 33, Edition 1, Thursday, August 20, 1981, page 1. Richard (Ricky) Kubacak, 21, of West, was killed Tuesday afternoon in an auto accident on Interstate 35 near Elm Mott. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today, Thursday, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Msgr. George Doskocil as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Kubacak was born in Waco and was a longtime resident of West. He attended St. Mary's Elementary School and West High School, where he was a member of the marching band, Distributive Education Clubs of America and the debate team. He graduated from high school in 1978 and attended Texas State Technical Institute, where he had received an associate degree in electronics last Friday. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Kubacak, Sr. of West; and a brother , Raymond Kubacak, Jr. of Austin. Pallbearers are David Devers, Charles Kubacak, Richard Picha, Alvin Rauschhuber, Edward Helona, Michael Mach, Mike Recek, Gary Uptmore, David Kofnovec, and Raymond Gene Schroeder. All friends and cousins will serve as honorary pallbearers. Kotch Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
