Tragedy marred preparations for the Seventh Annual West Rodeo Wednesday night when one of its most energetic supporters, Richard "Dicky" Jezek, was fatally electrocuted while fastening rodeo banners across the 100 block of Pine Street near Hill's Cafe. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. today, Friday, at the Church of the Assumption, Father George Doskocil officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery. Rosary was recited at Aderhold Chapel Thursday at 8:30 p.m. Although several others were nearby helping untangle the banners and tightening their support ropes, no one was able to tell just how the accident occurred at 10:10 p.m. Jezek, an 18-year old 1953 graduate of West High School, had been working with Walter Kubala and Johnny Nemecek. He apparently grabbed a 110-volt electric line on the light pole he was descending. Kubala and Nemecek were below and didn't realize that young Jezek had been hurt until he called out in a faint, "Help." The accident had happened just that quick. Force of the electric shock threw Jezek to a telephone cable just below, Jimmy Snokhous brought him down from there. Only a burn across his left hand indicated the force of the charge that had gone through his body. Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anton J. Jezek; four sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Feasle of Houston, Patsy Ruth J. Jezek, of California, Jeanette and Shirley Jezek of West; and a grandmother, Mrs. Frances Bilek.
