Bio

Lydia Mae Dobecka, age 83, of West, passed away early Wednesday afternoon, December 10, 2014 at Providence Health Center in Waco. The Divine Mercy Chaplet will be recited 6:00 p.m. Friday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 13, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Paul Hudson as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Lydia was born January 27, 1931 in West, the daughter of John and Katherine (Vochoska) Krizan. She attended the old Cottonwood School and was a 1949 graduate of West High School. On February 14, 1950 she was united in marriage to Robert H. Dobecka in West. Robert preceded her in death on December 8, 2007. Lydia and Robert operated a family farm and ranch in Cottonwood most of their life until retiring in 2000. Lydia was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughter's of America Society #829,KJZT Society #11, Young Farmer's Association, the West Longhorn Club and SPJST Lodge #6 in Cottonwood, where she was a sales agent, a youth leader and, along with her husband, helped manage Cottonwood Hall for many years. Lydia enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning and camping at Spivey Crossing. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and taking care of her dogs. Lydia is also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Therese Dobecka; and a sister, Adelle Royal. Survivors include two sons, Robert Dobecka Jr. and wife Peggy of Waco and David Dobecka and wife Stacy of Hubbard; three daughters, Carol Toliver and husband William of Rockdale, Delores "DeeDee" Wolf and husband Bill and Shirley Dobecka, all of West; a sister, Esther Malina; 19 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; a nephew, Johnny Malina; and many other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Cecil Dobecka, Mark Dobecka, Kevin Dobecka, Troy Dobecka, Delton Stuckly and Christian Romero. Honorary pallbearers are Officers and Members of SPJST. The family would like to thank the Doctors and staff of the ICU Department of Providence Health Center for their compassionate care and support during her recent stay and in 2001, to Texas Homehealth Hospice for their special care, especially Sherry and Brandy, and to Janice Kaluza for bringing communion to our Mother each week. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Volunteer Ambulance Association.
