Daniel Rather, born June 28, 1812 in Alabama; died August 03, 1884 in Shelbyville, Shelby County, Texas. He was the son of William Rather and Betsey McElwee. He married Eliza Jane Kirksey March 09, 1840 in Talladega County, Alabama. Eliza Jane Kirksey, born December 23, 1824 in Madison County, Alabama; died May 19, 1913 in Shelbyville, Shelby County, Texas. She was the daughter of James Isaac Kirksey and Mary Bradford Connally. Children of Daniel Rather and Eliza Kirksey are: i. Mary E. Rather, born 1842; died Unknown. ii. Frances Rebecca Rather, born 1844; died Unknown. iii. Sarah E. Rather, born 1846; died Unknown. iv. William J. Rather, born 1848; died 1891. v. John Taylor Rather, born 1850; died Unknown. vi. Margaret Alberta Rather, born 1853; died 1930. vii.
