William enlisted in Company F, 19th Texas Cavalry on May 10, 1862 at Jefferson, Texas. He was present or accounted for through January – February 1864. No further records. Miles to Rendezvous: 45 Son of William Elias Carlton and Mary Hastings. First wife was Sarah Ann Moreland. Supplied By TAYLOR William Hastings Carlton was about 10 years of age when his father brought the family to Texas. He grew up at Dalton and married Jane Hass Cryssup a widow with two children: Mary Jane and Henry. To this union was born: Margaret Frances, William Hastings, Jr., Dr. Elias E., Amanda L., and Guy (died at birth with his mother). On September 2, 1874 William Hastings remarried Sarah A. Moreland in Cass County. Their children were: Ada Elizabeth, John Thomas, James Elan, Mary Emily. Sarah A. Moreland died when Mary Emily was born in 1884. On March 26, 1886, William Hastings married Lou Elizabeth Smith, who died a short time after their marriage, then he married her sister, Missouri Ann Smith, who bore him a son Samuel Arthur. William Hastings Carlton fought with "Hoods Texas Brigade" in the Civil War and was wounded in the Battle of Vicksburg, Mississippi.
