Bio

Louis Michael Valis, 51, of Lorena, left this world to be with his Lord and Savior Nov. 8, 2009.Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, at St. Jerome Catholic Church with Father Rakshaganathan Selvaraj officiating and Deacons Greg George, Johnnie Thornton and Charlie Wright assisting. Burial service will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Westphalia, Texas. Visitation will be 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, at Grace Gardens Funeral Home, Waco. The recitation of the Rosary will follow at 7:30 p.m. Louis was born in Houston, Texas, to the late Louis and Margaret Kolodejcak Valis. He graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1976 and attended two years of college in Montana on a gymnastics scholarship. He then received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas in Austin in 1982. He received his Masters in Business Administration from Baylor University in 1988. He married Carla Thornton, on May 21, 1988. After working at Huck Manufacturing for 20 years in various managerial positions, he left to pursue his dream of owning his own business. In 2005, he and his business partner and good friend, Luther Fore, began building homes full time. Their company, Valis and Fore Homes, is highly respected in the home building industry. Louis was a proud father who delighted in watching his children, Kayla, Brooke and Eric, excel in their many activities. He loved spending quality time with his family including dancing, grilling, camping and family vacations. He was an avid bow hunter and loved the outdoors. Louis felt the need to give back to his community by volunteering with the American Cancer Society/Cattle Barons Ball, Habitat for Humanity and St. Jerome Catholic Church. Louis was a wonderful husband, incredible father, and great friend who will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife, Carla; daughters, Kayla and Brooke; and son (and fellow Longhorn) Eric; sister, Margaret Valis Null and husband, Ernie, of Magnolia; brother, Steven Valis and wife, Tonya, of St. Charles, Mo.; niece, Lisa Null, also of Magnolia; nephew, Brian Null and his wife, Holly, and baby, Madyson, of Lewisville, Colo.; and the entire Johnnie and Charlotte Thornton family, of Westphalia.
