Elizabeth Grace Powers Hastings resident Elizabeth Grace Powers, 77, died Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at her home Elizabeth Grace Messing was born December 6, 1931 to Ben V. and Elizabeth (Birkel) Messing in Fullerton, Nebraska. She graduated from St. Cecilia High School class of 1949. She was employed by Mutual of Omaha for three years. On August 12, 1952 she married David A. Powers at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings. She was involved in the Catholic Daughter Altar Society. She was also active in real estate development and investments at that time. She was affiliated with Gateway Realty of Hastings from 1977 until her retirement in 2001. She was a member of Lochland Country Club and local, state and national chapters of the National Association of Realtors. Survivors are her daughter, Corinne V. Stickels; son, Patrick J. Powers both of Hastings; two brothers, Eugene Messing of Overland Park, KS, Paul Messing of Castle Rock, CO; sister, Donna May Soucie of Sidney, NE; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David; and son, Christopher Matthew Powers. Memorial Mass will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at St. Michael's Catholic Church with Father Michael Houlihan officiating. Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery Memorial Contributions may be given to St. Michael's Catholic Church.
