Obituary of James W. Lewis James William Lewis , son of James and Fannie Lewis , was born on August 9, 1873 in Thurston County, Washington state. He moved to Missouri together with his mother, stepfather and two sisters when nine years of age. He came to Texas when he was 17 years of age with his family and settled near Roanoke in Tarrant County. When he was 21 he met Miss Georgia Lee Stokes from the Aurora Community. They were married in Aurora where they made their home. Six children were born to this union, five sons and one daughter. One son and the daughter preceded their father in death. The Lewises later moved to Decatur where the were living when Mrs. Lewis passed on June 21st 1944. In August of 1945 Mr. Lewis married Eunice Roberts . They lived in Aurora for two years then moved to Wichita Falls where they were living at the time of his death, Sunday, the 21st of November 1954 at 3:30 p.m. Mr. Lewis was a member of the Aurora Baptist Church at the time of his death. He had joined the church in 1945. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Eunice Lewis of Wichita Falls, 4 sons; Dewey Lewis, Decatur; Bob Lewis, Rhome; Tom Lewis, Ropesville; Edd Lewis, Justin; 2 sisters: Mrs. Jessie Griffith , Seymore, Texas; and Mrs. Maggie Massey , Uvalde, Texas. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted in the Aurora Baptist Church, Tuesday, November 23 at 2:00 p.m. conducted by Ref. Taft Slimp from Athens, Texas. Pallbearers were Joe Crites, Oscar Stokes, J.T. Stokes, John Morgan Stokes, Billy Charles Stokes, and Marion Lee Stokes. Interment was in Aurora cemetery.
