W. G. Barksdale Retired Banker Is Laid To Rest On Monday afternoon, Jan. 2, religious ceremonies were conducted in the First Baptist Church in Alvord by Rev. Morgan ? Beach, assisted by Rev. J. W. Jones, Rev. H. M. Harrison, of Alvord, and Minister Howard B. Stubblefield, Claude, Texas were held in the presence of a great gathering of friends and relatives for W. G. Barksdale, who departed this life on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 1, at the family home in Alvord. The impressive rites and sweet singing were tenderly comforting to the stricken loved ones. The many lovely floral tributes were fitting expressions of affectionate memories friends hold for Mr. Barksdale as a man who was always kind and considerate of others. Interment was made in the Chico Cemetery where a commitment service was said and the body left sleeping in peaceful rest, awaiting the resurrection morn. Active pallbearers were Bill Grissom, Tome Grissom, E. T. Cox, Johnnie Smith, Wiley Howell, Lonnie Brown. Honorary pallbearers, Wm. Covington, Dave P. Everett, Oran Speer, Frank Turner, Clyde Collins, V. E. Baldridge, Dr. Redinger, Dr. Crumpler, Hal Sands, Wm. Covington Jr., B. W. McClung, W. M. Flanery and A. J. McDonald. Rhyne Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Walter Garrett Barksdale was born April 6, 1884, in Wise County, Texas. He united with the First Baptist Church of Chico at an early age. On Dec. 18, 1904, he was united in marriage to Miss Ruthe Dale. To this union five children were born. Mr. Barksdale had been a bank officer in Alvord until ill health forced his retirement several months ago. Such a man as Mr. Barksdale is missed and mourned by countless friends and his loss is deplored by our entire people. The loved ones are offered the kindest sympathy from everybody. Survivors include his wife, of Alvord; four daughters, Mrs. Jewell Blakeney, Claude; Mrs. Cleo Williams, Houston; Mrs. Pollyanna Leonard, Ft. Worth; Mrs. Toadie Daniel; one son, R. G. Barksdale, Palestine; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Annie Wallace, Las Vegas, Nev.; Mrs. Betty Kincannon, Rhome; Mrs. Emma Madden, Littlefield, Texas.
