UTE, Iowa -- Ruby L. Johnson, 78, of Ute died Sunday, April 26, 2009, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa. Services were 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute, with the Rev. Ed Brandt officiating. Burial was in St. Clair Cemetery. Ruby Lorraine Johnson was born Jan. 9, 1930, in the family farm south of Ute, to Fred and Herda (Fester) Ehlers. She was baptized on Feb. 2, 1930, and confirmed into the Lutheran faith on April 14, 1944, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute. She attended country school Soldier 6 and Ute High School. She was united in marriage to Elvin Leo Johnson on May 31, 1946, at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wathena, Kan. They were blessed with three sons. She lived most of her life on farms south of Ute. Elvin passed away Oct. 23, 1998. She moved into Ute the following year. She was a lifetime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She also was a member of Rachel Circle, the Red Hat Society and the Lucky 13 Club, of which she was a charter member. She enjoyed spending time with family and playing cards with various groups. Survivors include a son, Roger of Ute; three grandchildren, Lisa and her husband, Randy Steffen of Charter Oak, Iowa, Eric Johnson and his partner, Dr. Mark Parker of Dallas, Texas, and Scott Johnson and his wife, Mia of San Bernadino, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Jane Johnson of Ute; five great-grandchildren, Marcus, Jonathon and Emily Steffen and Seth and Selah Johnson; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Christine Ehlers; a brother-in-law, Gene Johnson; and other relatives and friends. Along with her husband, she was also preceded in death by two sons, Kevin on July 16, 1975 and Rodney on July 16, 2007; her parents; five brothers, Lonald, Eldon, Lionel, Leonard and Loyle Ehlers; a sister, Beatrice Naab; and two sisters-in-law, Leona Laviviere and Jean Ehlers.
