Bio

Leon ‘Casper' Shields, 63, died November 15 at Bridgeport Hospital. The Rev. M. L. Milton conducted graveside services at West Bridgeport Cemetery November 18. Mr. Shields, a Bridgeport resident for 20 years, was born August 29, 1926, in Wingate. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II, and married Billy Joyce Whitworth January 24, 1953, in Midland. He was a previous resident of Abilene, and was a self-employed truck driver. Survivors include his wife, Joyce, of Bridgeport; his mother Laura Mayfield of Temple; a son, Ronny Shields, of Bridgeport; a daughter, Gail Massey of Abilene; a brother, Pat Shields, Abilene; three sisters, Ruth Strackbien of Artesia, New Mexico; Lillie Mae Cotter, Houston, and Lanell Schukraft, Longview; and four great grandchildren.
