Bio

Parents: Richard Leon and Aurilla (Soper) Thayer. Wife of Lyman Morton Hattan. Married June 3, 1905 at Basin, Big Horn, Wyoming. Torrington Telegram newspaper publish date December 9, 1920, Thursday Mrs. L.M. Hatton Dies On Sunday Evening Mrs. L.M. Hatton died at Torrington Sunday evening from a complication of ailments, after an illness of two weeks, leaving a husband and six small children ranging in age from two to fourteen years. She was thirty-three years of age. The funeral was held Tuesday forenoon from the Presbyterian church at Lingle, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Marshall, the pastor. Interment was in the Lingle cemetery. Death is always sad and heart-rending, but Mrs. Hatton's passing away was one of the saddest which has ever occured in this community. A little more than a year ago the Hatton family was living on a ranch near Cody, this state, which they were endeavoring to pay for. They also had a small bunch of cattle. Last spring's storm wiped out their cattle, and with other financial reverses they were left practically destitute. Starting east in a covered wagon, in search of work, they were camped along the roadside near Lingle, about two months ago, when two of the children became ill from typhoid. County authorities arranged for their care at the Torrington hospital, where they were brought back to health. Mr. Hatton had secured work at Lingle and was endeavoring to provide for his family the best he could when Mrs. Hatton became ill. Not realizing the seriousness of her condition a physician was not at once called, and when this was finally done, life was hanging in the balance. She was brought to the Torrington hospital and altho a special nurse was provided and every possible care given, she lived only a few days. For several weeks the people of Lingle have been providing the family with food and clothing and upon the death of the mother, money was raised for them at both Torrington and Lingle. The father will endeavor to keep the children together.
