Andrew J. Mayes is a son of William "Billie" and Winifred (Kirk) Mayes. --------------------------------------------- The origin of the name Mayes is English and the Coat of Arms contains an ermine with a bend between two eagles and on the stripe three lions. The Crest is an eagle. The family motto is "Garde ta bien aimee". Spelling variations include: Maze, Mayze, and others. First found in in Somerset where they were seated from early times and their first records appeared on the early census rolls taken by the early Kings of Britain to determine the rate of taxation of their subjects. Robert Maze settled in Virginia in 1643; Francis, Edward, Francis and John Maze all arrived in Philadelphia between 1840 and 1860.
