. . . . . . . . . . Veteran of World War II . . . . . . . . . . Rockdale, Texas. -- Funeral services were held here Tuesday for Robert E. Smith, 53, who died in a local hospital Monday. Burial was in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Smith, a civilian accountant at Fort Bliss, near El Paso, became ill Sunday while visiting relatives here. For many years, before going to El Paso, Smith has been an employee of the Rockdale post office. He served as an Army officer in the South Pacific during World War II. Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Mrs. M.J. Detlefsen, in France with her husband who is in military service; Mrs. Billy E. Haelbig of Rockdale and Mrs. Noel Grant of Houston; four sisters, Mrs. Mittie Holley of Buffalo, Mrs. Della Lansford of Cameron, Mrs. Nettie Neely of Dallas and Mrs. Susie Boyd of West, and a brother, Arch Smith of Buffalo.
