Alois Miksch (43327314) Suggested edit: ALOIS MIKSCH, 86, DIES; ILL THREE YEARS Extensive Landowner, Came to County From Moravia Funeral services for Alois Miksch, 86, who died at 7:45 p.m. Thursday at the home of his son Albert, will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's church in Platte Center, Rev. William Brady officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's cemetery. The body was taken from the Bideaux mortuary at 4 p.m. today to the Albert Miksch home two miles and a half northwest of Platte Center. An extensive landowner, he was born in Moravia where he was married Oct. 16, 1880, to Theresa Lammel. They lived in Harle, their birthplace, until 1888 when they came to the United States. They arrived at Oconee Sept. 25, and lived several months with Mr. and Mrs. John Sauter; in the meantime building a small house near Oconee. He worked two years as a U.P. section hand and then rented a small farm and purchased his first 80 by going deeply into debt. Mrs. Miksch died in 1936 and a daughter, Theresa, in infancy. He leaves three daughters, Mrs. Amalia Rohrich and Mrs. Herman Alves of Monroe, and Mrs Edward Waldman of Oconee; three sons, Louis and John of Oconee and Albert; 24 grandchildren and six great granchildren. He had not been in the best of health for three years but previous to that had always been well. He was a member of St. Joseph's in Platte Center. He took an active part in educational affairs and for 15 years was treasurer of the school district board. He was director four years and moderator three years, despite the fact he never learned to speak English fluently.
