Bio

W. R. SAXON, 65, LAST RITES HELD AT NEW HOPE. Funeral services for W. R. Saxon, 65, were held at 2 p. m. Sunday, October 15, in Little Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Pugh and Rev. Melvin Harrell officiating. Burial was in Little Hope Cemetery under direction of McCrary-Edwards-Cain Funeral Home. Mr. Saxon died Friday, Oct 13, in a Quitman hospital where he had been a patient for the past 13 days. He had made his home on Route 1, Mineola for the past two months. He was a former resident of Route 3, Winnsboro. He was born in Wood County July 13, 1907, to Joe Harold Saxon and the former Ada Rogers. In 1941, he married the former Rosa Lee Thomas, who survives. He was a former bus driver and custodian for Winnsboro schools. He was a member of Little Hope Baptist Church. Survivors, other than his widow, include five sons, George Saxon, Quitman, Kenny Saxon and Wilber Saxon, Jr., both of Mineola; Glen Saxon and Hershell Saxon, both of Gilmer; two daughters, Mrs. Shirley Smith, Quitman, and Mrs. Charlotte Bradshaw, Houston; four brothers, Frank Saxon and Henry Saxon, both of Winnsboro, E. A. Saxon, Pittsburgh, and Robert Saxon, Dallas; and four grandchildren. Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death. Pallbearers were J. M. Whittiker, Hubert Gore, Gerald Smith, W. H. Smith, Ricky Harrell and Stanley Whittaker. Winnsboro News 19 Oct 1972
