Bio
My great grandmother. She is the daughter of Memory Henry Thornton and Sarah Amanda Johnston Thornton of Georgia. She came by wagon train with her parents to Bell County about 1878 from Montgomery Co. Alabama when she was about five years old. Her father died on the way to Texas, and her mother then married Isaac Chrismon Fletcher of Youngsport. She married WFP Moore Aug 8, 1886 in Bell County, Texas. Children: Mattie Moore Nathaniel William Moore Sr. James Modie Moore Wiley Franklin Pierce Moore, Jr. Ross Ballard Moore - my grandfather Rosa Lee Moore Perry Her obituary in the Killeen Daily Herald: "Mrs. Lela Moore, 80, "Granny Moore" to her many friends in this section, passed away in a Brady hospital last Thursday. Mrs. Moore was returned to Killeen by the Cole-Law Funeral Home and funeral services were conducted at Sharp last Saturday afternoon. The Rev. T. E. Pennington, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Killeen, conducted the service. Mrs. Moore had been in ill health for several years and the past year had been bedridden most of the time. Several months ago her condition became so serious that she was removed to the home of her son Jimmie at Lampasas and later to the Brady hospital where she passed away. Mrs. Moore had lived in and around Killeen for many years. For many years she operated the telephone switchboard at Youngsport, and for more than twenty years she acted as pianist at the Sharp Church which is located across the Lampasas River a short distance from Youngsport. She was a grand old lady, loved and admired by a wide circle of friends here who will miss her. Pallbearers were her grandsons. She is survived by three sons, Jimmie of Lampasas, Wiley of Jarrel and Ross of Tyler, two Sisters and a brother." Frank and Annie had 23 grandchildren.
