THE REGISTER-MAIL (Galesburg, Illinois) - Sep 1975 "Aircraft Builder: Charles Melton Succumbs at 75" GALVA -- Funeral services were held for Charles S. Melton, 75, of Galva, at 10 a.m., Tuesday at the Johnson-Gill-Schuster Chapel. Rev. James Hancock officiated, and burial was in Clover Chapel Cemetery near Woodhull. He died at 8:30 p.m., Saturday (Sep. 20) at St. Mary's Hospital, Galesburg, where he was admitted last Friday. He had been in failing health for several years. He had been living at the Galesburg Convalescent Home since February 1975. He was born June 1, 1900, in Clark County, Ill., one of eight children of James and Kathryn McCarty Melton. He was educated in the rural schools. On December 17, 1925, he was married to Lilly M. Cathcart at Woodhull. She died March 4, 1974. He lived in Phoenix, Ariz., from 1945 until he moved back to Galva in December 1973. He was a builder of Aircraft for Boeing Aircraft, Seattle, Wash., and Goodyear Aerospace, Phoenix, until he retired in 1964. He is survived by two sons, Dale E. Melton and Robert C. Melton, both of Galva; one daughter, Mrs. Mary A. Fendt of Sacremento, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Howard Melton of Bishop Hill and Greenough Melton of Princeton, Ind.; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Whitehurst of Clearwater, Fla, Mrs. Elmo (Ruth) Bland of Metcalf, Ill., and Mrs Virgil (Blanche) Zackary of Casey, Ill. He was preceded in death by his wife, one brother, and one sister.
