Bio

Funeral services for Brodie Wayne Hutchinson, Sr. 77, of Andrews, were held Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Means Memorial United Methodist Church in Andrews with the Rev. Rick Doyle, pastor, and Mike Fetner of Dallas officiating. Burial followed in Andrews West Cemetery under the direction of McNett Funteral Home in Andrews. Serving as pallbearers were Brodie Hutchinson, Jr., Mark and Michael Randolph, Joseph and Clay Hutchinson and Max Mainord. Honorary pallbearers were A.J. Cain, Billy Cox, James Harder, Sam Hollis, Jerry Pitts, Bill Rogers, Forrest Scott, Bert Smith and Sam Snoody. Brodie passed away on Sunday September 11, at Regency Hospital in Odessa. Brodie W. Hutchinson was born in Aiken, October 29, 1927, the son of Joseph Cyrus Hutchinson, Jr. and Mary Morris Hutchinson. He attended school in Sudan, Texas until his senior year, which was completed at Brackenridge High School in San Antonio. He attended Trinity University, served in the Army of Occupation in Germany and returned home to Texas Tech University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in biology and Master of Arts in education. He married La Rue Clark on May 26, 1950, in Littlefield, and they began teaching in Levelland that year. They moved to Andrews in 1955, where he was assistant principal at the high school from 1955-1965, becoming principal in 1965, his tenure lasting until 1990. He took great pleasure in the accomplishments of his students and former students, both academically and in their careers, as well as their successes in all sports activities. Brodie loved being with his family and friends, and he enjoyed gardening, playing golf, traveling, and watching sports. He participated in many civic and professional organizations. He served as past president of the Andrews Downtown Lions Club and Andrews Chamber of Commerce, where he also served as an Ambassador. He served on the Andrews City Council from 1997-2003 and was a past member of the Association of Secondary School Principals and the Governor'r Professional Practices Commission. He was a member of Means Memorial United Methodist Church in Andrews for 50 years. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, La Rue Hutchinson of Andrews; one son, Brodie Hutchinson, Jr. of Levelland; two daughters, Nedra Randolph and husband Mark of Houston, and Beth Hutchinson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and four beloved grandchildren, Joseph and Clay Hutchinson and Lindsey and Michael Randolph. Memorials may be sent to Means Memorial United Methodist Church, American Lung Society or disaster relief agencies.
